EXTENDED TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN/PRE-SCHOOL CLASS
In this program, we use the Creative curriculum for pre-school to meet the California Learning Foundations. The Creative Curriculum embeds learning academic skills, language development as well as social/emotional skills.
We use studies to investigate topics that children are interested in such as Trees, Balls, Clothes, and Pets.
Our day includes interest areas, question of the day, large and small group instruction, read-alouds and mighty minutes. Students are participating actively during the school day and their instructional program is connected to foundational skills, science, social studies, art, mathematics , stories, physical education and outdoor activities.
The ETK/PCC program is composed of one ETK classroom teacher, one PCC teacher, one Teacher Assistant and one Special Education Trainee. Class composition is 16 ETK students and 8 PCC students. Students attend school Monday through Friday for 6 hours per day.
The beginning of the school year is an exciting time! During the first weeks of the school year, we will be focusing on school routines, rules and procedures. The students will experience dramatic play, building with blocks and developing fine motor skills through working in small groups using play dough, crayons and scissors. We will begin to work on name recognition, letters of the alphabet and numbers during rotations through out the school year. You can help your child transition to school by reassuring him/her and showing enthusiasm for learning. We are very happy and excited to be your child's teachers this school year.
